This is a “Palenquera”. Dont know where the term comes from, however I know she is from an area of the coast where the african heritage is rich and vibrant. For a living she sells cocadas. Which are coconut shavings fried with caramel, arequipe (dulce de leche) or other flavors. She puts them on a tub and walks the towns, beaches and plazas of the colombian coast. Each cocada sells for roughly 50 cents U.S. The day I took this image it was 100 degrees f at Puerto Viejo beach near Covenas, Colombia. She deserved her rest
Una Palenquera, no se de donde viene el termino, lo que si se es que el area donde vive todavia es parte de una tradicion africana que todavia es rica y llenas de similitudes con Africa.
